The result is an entertaining animated free-for-all in which gratifying and humorous characters visuals of the Manhattan setting predominate over a sketchy although serviceable plot. Members of the Flushed Pets fight twice and with people hijack an Animal Control van, once crashing it within an alley and another time driving it off a bridge into the bay that is watery beneath. The Secret Life of Pets is not weak enough that parents will not fall into a catatonic state while watching it. He bounced about by the Flushed Pets in other chase scenes at the same time and and his friends are pummeled. Human Animal Control officers go after several characters on multiple occasions and occasionally succeed in catching them and locking them up in cages. Each animal is brought by the voices behind them to life, although the movie’s pets are not given a ton of style through their cartoon.
