The primary two Divergent” movies have grossed more than $550 million at the global box office and are Lionsgate’s highest-grossing pictures outside The Hunger Games” and Twilight” franchises. Keeping her intentions in mind, I however believe this end neglected in it’s execution. Like the injury and dying of Uriah, a great deal of the ending was tied up with her passing. This is a lot like Divergent where there’s a ton of decent writing although not much plot movement. And in spite of the predictability along with the repeat and the deus ex machina moments, this storyline was a confused mess and most of it was completely unnecessary to where we went. It had been among the few interesting things concerning the book, though I believed the love triangle” was unnecessary and slowed the storyline down. Plus, he spends all of Allegiant being broken down and we never actually see him built back up. For a last publication so manufactured most of it’s spent on (badly done) exposition to explain it all away, Tris and Caleb to me felt like the sole thing real about any of it, the one character development accomplishment in a sea of storyline development failure. This info dump is compounded by several things: 1) Everything we thought we understood about the outside is a lie and a few things we thought we understood about the folks on the interior is a lie, too; 2) Tris understands nothing about the outside so things that we understand about as readers keep being off handedly explained to her and also not described to her; 3) a large amount of what Tris must figure out is science and history, and there is not the sufficient background needed to help with suspension of disbelief. In Allegiant, we must overthrow the tyranny of Jeanine Mathews 2.0/3.0. It’s exactly the same struggle. I am talking about seriously the second part isn’t even out yet and people rated a book that is likely not even written yet! The thoughtless manner her passing is composed and shown makes the ending look like it was purely composed simply for a cheap shock value.
The close for Tris was, I think, the best portion of the publication (and interestingly enough, not because it was finally over and done with). Now I am supposing this was seen as ridiculous, because Allegiant takes this society and makes it an experiment. That is just what she, as a dangerous man that is selflessly, would do. But considering that there was a totally good man involved in this ending that needed to be redeemed (cough Caleb cough) who didn’t offer to sacrifice himself to save his sister, I’m questioning the true reason for why this end was decided. The Divergent Show: Allegiant is set for release on March 10th in the united kingdom and March 18th in the States, with a cast that includes Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Jeff Daniels, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q, Keiynan Lonsdale, Jonny Weston, Mekhi Phifer, Daniel Dae Kim, Nadia Hilker and Bill Skarsgard. A part of me understands that the point is the fact that Four isn’t perfect; he has four anxieties, but those four fears are so much larger and more terrifying than most people’s ten or twenty (or my thousand). The American Authorities in Allegiant would not make two wrongs in hopes of getting a right. He started to become Cassandra Clare prose essentially and that is NOT what I wanted in Allegiant. I do not realize how Roth believed this was a successful way of ending the show that defined her. EDIT (7/11/13): The end is far from being the worst thing relating to this book, but I did read the writer ‘s blog post. Basically, I only liked two things – Tris and Caleb’s relationship, as well as the ballsy finishing (for like five seconds).
We tend not to accept selfishness, stupidity, pride, as part of us. You want to remove it. It is vilified by us. And when confronted with all the chance to be rid of it, we would probably take it. Even Uriah ‘s injury and death felt the same as a plot point for Four that was finally entirely glossed over. While the divergent are likely too, fundamentally, the damaged are more unlikely to survive. Abruptly, tensions are growing between the factionless and the Allegiant (the group who desires to re-establish the faction system) and Evelyn decides she’s planning to work with the Erudite departure serum to wipe out her adversaries. Admittedly, I Have been a skeptic of Veronica Roth’s novels – Divergent was nonsense dressed up as a dystopian, Insurgent pretty much failed at everything except piling on the bullshit – but, as I called in my Insurgent review, there was only something about Roth’s end game that had me curious. She showed her change to the bravery that she originally desired to have way back in Divergent. Constantly I kept forgetting I was reading a book that is a continuance of the Divergent trilogy. The novel gets a little preachy right before this part where the characters start talking about the memories of erasing someone is fundamentally bad-unless you have good intentions, naturally.
It was so paint by numbers and persistent that it became predictable because there is no time for nuance thanks to all the arbitrary information being thrown around and all of the random things that keep happening because Tris is definitely right and in part. Now, I am not saying to get a fictional novel everything has to make perfect sense, but in this case, it is not so much that the factions make no sense (even after all of the mumbo jumbo experimental crap Roth’s concocted to compel some logic on the system – bs I saw coming ever since Insurgent’s out of nowhere ending) as much as the factions are so obviously composed the way they may be to fortify Roth’s message of how stereotyping is bad they make no sense outside that circumstance. Four finds out that he’s certainly not divergent (um, ok?), and then he totally breaks down and immediately loses all of the increase he had accomplished in the first two novels and does something dumb. The next episode of the hit Divergent show franchise, ALLEGIANT takes Tris Shailene Woodley and Four Theo James into a new world, a lot more dangerous than before. We’re all here weeping (read: sobbing our eye sockets dry) because of that ending. The same as the characters in the novel, the despair wipes away any heavy philosophical mulling I might have about what occurred in the plot. Instead of trying to conclude the old struggle involving the factions along with the factionless, the novel tries to take on an entirely new struggle between the genetically damaged and the genetically pure, leaving little to no room for character development that is proper and making the storyline convoluted. Primarily, the inorganic way the events are shown beat the effect this end was looking to accomplish.
Hereis the thing, Divergent as a series is made around one very simple, very obvious proposition: we should all be treated as individuals rather than stereotyped into some faction, Dauntless or Erudite or Candor (except Roth’s doing the stereotyping anyway, like what’s up with just the Erudite wearing glasses?). Cue the forced emotional and dramatic end as we’re forced to read Four’s tragic reaction to her passing where readers drown in a pool of the feels. I had a few difficulties with it (chiefly that it spelled out a bit too much for the reader, lacked finesse together with the handling of Motifs, and was occasionally quite predictable) but the character development was breathtaking, the storyline was heart-thumping and since it is a young adult novel, I think Veronica Roth did a pretty darn decent job:)Most readers will adore it. True, I’ve ever been a skeptic of Veronica Roth’s novels – Divergent was junk dressed up as a dystopian, Insurgent failed at everything except stacking on the bullshit – but, as I predicted within my Insurgent revi Clearly, I only do not get it. I have no issue with unhappy endings, bittersweet endings, happy endings, as well as open ends SO LONG AS THE ENDING MAKES SENSE TOGETHER WITH THE BODY OF THE WORK. Allegiant was definitely the last publication of a hype-copter of a string that left millions of subscribers invested. Lem me clarify: if this convoluted storyline didn’t leave me wanting to go back to the stupid but at least intriguing concept of the factions and really made sense, then I wouldn’t be as frustrated as I am.
