Electric pianos should not be confused with the digital piano, as the 2 are completely different things. The electrical version is electro acoustic whereas the digital model uses printed circuits. It was from the late sixties that the recognition of electro acoustic devices witnessed a surge in popularity that reached its heyday within the seventies, when people went crazy about these instruments.
All those heavy, old, vintage and imposing wanting un amplified stage pianos had been changed by their electric equivalent and the latter was primarily designed and targeted for either school use or residence use. Many of those electrical pianos were used in school music labs and faculty labs where several students who use headphones might study to play simultaneously.

Just a few famous musical pieces that have been performed on electrical piano have been Just the Approach You Are by Billy Joel, Little Jeannie, Sorry Appears to Be the Hardest Word, Daniel by Elton John etc.
